I only use oils .As for the metal on the figure i mix lamp black and burnt umber and apply it to the bare metal ,i then dab it off with kitchen towel leaving a fine stain of oils .Once dry i shade the areas where needed with more lamp black and blend them in,i highlight with printers ink added to the basic mix.
