| I have this 54mm Pegaso figure i'm currently workin' on. I do intend on gettin' myself a set of lights to photograph my figures in some better and subtle lightin'. Although outside, daylight really does show up any mistakes and flaws in your work, and helps you to see and remedy any of these problems. This was taken outdoors in overcast light. Your honest opinions are appreciated. | |

| Thanks, Ernest.
With the black primer I don't have any need to blackline anythin', and in the most deepest of recesses I can leave it black and this helps with my depth of shadin'. I've never ever used any grey or white primer in all the years i've been paintin' figures.
For the armour, I used Games Workshop metallics mixed with Vallejo flat colours like Black and Chocolate Brown, the basecoat was then highlighted by addin' more of the metallic colour to the mix. The GW metallics really work well when they're mixed like this. They're pigments/ flake, are superfine.

| Great figure man! You really work wonders with those paints... What's the shield going to be painted like? - Paulyrichard wrote:

I prefer taking pictures of my figures outside and I wouldn't trade that for any kind of artificial light. I have some 6500K daylight bulbs, but it still isn't quite like natural light IMO. Mario

| Thanks, Mario.
This is my way of thinkin'. If it holds up to natural daylight then it is always gonna' look good. This is my rationale. I think an artificial light source enhances the look of a figure, but can be deceivin' the viewer at the same time.
I always paint durin' the day, never at night under a light, daylight balanced or not.
Regards, Paul. | |

That's exactly what I was thinking... I also paint only during the day. I hated rushing home from work during winters only to get half an hour of painting before the sun sets... so I got myself a nice "daylight lamp" setup. Although it is nice and the colors look much closer to what they look like during the day it still isn't the same. So I'm stuck to painting during the day. Perhaps it sounds crazy... Anyway, my way of thinking is: if the lamp can "fool" you and your "feeling" of the color, it could also "fool" the viewer looking at the pictures taken under those lamps... OK enough of this OT rant. Back to the topic: what about the shield? Any ideas on the design? Mario

| Sometimes I paint during the day, but not too close to the window, too much sun is bad for my sight and I also use two bulbs during the day. When I don't have time during the day I have to paint at night but I use two blue bulbs white light 65watts, is pretty hot but work cool for me, I also use this bulbs to take my pics... | |

| Ernest, I guess you have a lot of sunlight from where you come from, huh? Here in the UK, we have a lot of bright overcast light, which is ideal for paintin', it really is. Mario, I'm usin' this decal manufacturer's sheet as a reference, not sure about which one, yet. | |

| I've completed the shield usin' quite a regular and safe design for this period. The design was lightly drawn in with a pencil first givin' me a rough guide. The base colour was Vallejo's Dark Red, and a nice colour it is too. | |

| I got the Milliput putty laid down on the base, now. I then textured it with an old toothbrush, and then layed in a few stones. The log (twig) I found in my garden and I am surprised at how much it resembles an in scale lookin' broken trunk of tree. This I will enhance the look of with some paint, maybe jus' the bark. Next up is the texturin' with Vallejo's stone effect paint. | |

| Cheers, dude. Well, after a light coatin' of Vallejo Coarse Pumice I applied a basecoat of Vallejo Chocolate Brown. Its jus' a matter of waitin' a few days for some diorama materials to come through the post. Ohhh man, jus' sittin' an' waitin', why I can never order in advance, I don't know...! | |
