Thanks to everyone for your comments.I was asked on how i do the metal parts and mail.
It's all very straightforward. On the armour i applied Lamp Black and Burnt Umber oil mix undiluted and then dab it off ( not wipe it off) with a kitchen paper towel until your left with a fine skin of oil paint. On this particular figure i wanted the armour to be quite shiny,if i was wanting a more worn look i would stipple the surface of the metal with an old worn out brush. Most of the highlights are the bare metal showing through.I highlight certain areas with silver printers ink and a touch of Liquin e.g. rivets etc. When this is all dry i paint in extreme shading with pure lamp black and blend it in with a small stubbled brush.
For the mail i used a mix of Lamp Black and Burnt Umber (differing the mix slightly from the armour mix) I add a dab of Liquin and then thin it down so that the paint flows and then apply it over the bare metal.Usually more than one coat is needed for the mail making sure that it's completely dry between coats.Thats about it really, not exactly rocket science but just a bit of practising the technique.
The bare metal i should have said i clean up and give it an overall rub down with coarse steel wool as this gives the oils something to grip onto.
No buffing or using fine steel wool!!
